How much is a good price for an out of print books publishing rights?

January 312010

I wish to make an offer to buy the publishing rights for a book, that was printed in 67′ (one edition) and never printed again. The author is passed on, what would be a fair price to offer the family. I preffer to buy it than work with royalties. Anyone know how I can find contacts for the authors family? Thanks in advance

If you like it then price is their, and if you do not like it you just do not want it even free of cost.

Where can I find an active newsblog specializing in new and popular books?

I really want to get back into reading and I want to do this by checking out books that have generally been received well by readers and/or critics, or are just well-known. Part of the enjoyment of reading is discussing the books, especially when it’s easy to find others that have read the same thing as you.

We have all these news blog sites focusing on film, television and DVDs, but is there a fairly regularly updated site (in blog format) that posts about new, mainstream books and authors?

You can try this one, It’s a 100 book challenge, I’ve found some really good ones (like Perfume: The Story of a Murderer). So far, I think there are 26 different books listed along with a summary and opinion…

Am reading the Grapes Of Wrath and I took it out of the library. The thing is …the teacher makes us highlight important passages from the book and I can’t do that. So, what are some stores that sell used books in Chicago? THANKS !

I’m not familiar with Chicago, but you might want to look for Salvation Army or Goodwill stores. I also recommend seeing if any libraries in the area are having used book sales because the prices at those are usually very good. Another thing to think about is, do people in Chicago do yard sales?

Can I upload full text of old books online or do I need to ask permission first?

January 312010

I have several old books from various publishers that I want to upload the full text of online. Can I do that or do I need to ask permission first? How do I go about that? What are the legal issues, if any?

I think the key to your answer your question might be, " Is the book still protected by copyright?"

For instance, Project Gutenberg does exactly what you are talking about.

They take old books and turn them into electronic books.

Is there a special bibliography citation for paperback books?

January 312010

I’m working on a paper and am citing a paperback book. The hardback version has a different number of pages, so citations do not correspond across versions.

Thus, when I cite the paperback, is there a special designation to note that my source is the paperback and not the hardback?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

No but if all of the publication data is absolutely identical between the hardcover and softcover editions (which is unusual) you might note "softcover edition" in your bibliography or in the first citation.
