Can you buy used books from Barnes and Noble with a gift card?

February 272011

The Barnes and Noble Marketplace allows people to sell used books. You can check out right from the barnes and noble website, but can you use the Barnes and Noble gift card to buy the used books?

Hi!

Yes, actually, you can! (You can use it to pay for shipping and handling, too.) But just remember: Get a book from the best used-book dealer. (They’re usually labeled near their profile name, "Best used-book dealer," or something like that.) Trust me, just do it. Even if one dealer on the end of the list is selling it for 1/3 of the retail price. You won’t get your book. Seriously. For example, for Christmas, I got a gift card, and used it to get a small, paper back novel for, like, six dollars. (Three dollars for the novel, and $3.99 for shipping.)

After I placed my order, the guy canceled it. I was annoyed, but then I thought, "Hey, it happens! It’s okay, don’t worry." But now, my sister used her own gift card for a couple of books. She got the books that she bought without the dealer in three days, but after twenty days, there’s still no word about the twenty dollar book from the dealer. So, I suggest buying the used book from the book dealer who has the label thing, and yeah… But, to answer your question, yes, you can. Good luck!

What are some good Conservative Christian books for my daughter?

February 192011

My daughter is 11 and I recently had to beat her with a switch because I caught her reading this liberal Maya Angelou poetry drivel. I want her to grow up to be a proud conservative woman who will be a dutiful mother and wife one day. The evils of our modern society (welfare leeches, civil rights, feminism, the homosexual agenda) will never touch my daughter because I’m homeschooling her in the utmost matter. What are some good conservative books she can read to strengthen her beliefs?

The bible. Start there and take her to church.
The US Constitution and The Bill of Rights are also a good read.

What is a good website to read books online?

February 172011

I’ve been looking for a website to read books online but most of them I have to download something. Does anyone know a free one?

Hey visit http://www.onlypageturners.com they research all the books they have first to make sure they are great books before putting them on their site. The book links they have will lead you to the dealer that offers books online to read, but you have to look closely. Because they offer regular books, kindle books and online books to read. Hope this helps

Does anyone know where I can get a rather LARGE number of bibles or other christian books?

February 152011

I’m looking for any christian books at little or no charge can anyone help?
We had a school shooting here and 1 person was killed and 1 injured I’d like to pass out bibles or devotioals anything like that to the students, teachers, parents and community.

Advertise that you are having a Christian Book Burning and you will get hundreds at no cost at all. Of course, you will have to burn some of them because you advertised it that way and some folks are going to want to dance around the bonfire. Some will even want to dance naked and you know what kind of crowd that will bring out. You are good with that, right?

What are some non-fiction books on the universe and astronomy?

February 132011

I want to get some non-fiction books about things like planets and stars. What are some good ones that I could get at Barnes and Noble?

For all purposes, just walk through the science area. Astronomy for Dummies isn’t exactly *great*, but …. for a beginner, it isn’t exactly bad. Almost any of the books that have maps (several pages) of the sky (look for almost any books that have the name ‘Wil Tirion’ on the cover – - you’ll be okay with those.) Make sure they have sections on telescopes and binoculars (how to tell different types, how to use, how to care for them, and sections on planets and stars. Over the past few years I’ve maybe bought 3 or 4 dozen book – and I use (perhaps) a dozen or so regularly.

Do you think someday e-readers will replace paperback books?

February 72011

Hopefully not in the near future :(
The only good thing I can think about it is that you are helping to save trees, but it’s just hard to give up holding that book in your hands!

Part of me likes the idea because hey, going green, yay!
But the other part is screaming about how nice the paper smells. It’s sleepy-smelling, and the last time I lent a friend a book, they told me it smells like me. XD So they sort of become part of you in more ways than one…

I love paper books. E-readers feel detached. The whole looking up a definition thing right on the page is pretty handy, though.

Though my history teacher also had the idea that all books would be replaced by e-readers, so you’d never lose a school book (though if you did, you are screwed in every class) and libraries would change form entirely. o.o

I don’t think it’ll happen TOO soon. Those things are kind of expensive. There’ll always be a few people with huge personal libraries. I hope to be one of those people :D
