What are some good murder mystery books?

March 292011

I can’t find any good teen murder mystery books, and I really want too………I’ve already read the pretty little liars series so don’t say those…..please help!!
Also, I’m looking for a murder mystery book that has comedy and romance to it….
Thanks for the author thoughts already, I’ll check them out, thanks to all!!!!!!

Six Geese A Slaying, Donna Andrews (she has written other mysteries with birds in the title: Cockatiels at Seven, Revenge of the Wrought Iron Flamingos, etc. These are funny and fun to read.)

The Ballad Mysteries by Sharon McCrumb (If I’d Killed Him When I Met Him, The Ballad of Frankie Silver, etc. Mysteries with barely a hint of the supernatural.).

The Thomas Linley series by Elizabeth George (these are very graphic with violence and sex)

The Temperance Brennan books by Kathy Reichs (the main character is a forensic pathologist)

The Gideon Oliver Series by Aaron Elkins (the main character is a forensic anthropologist)

The Grant County series by Karin Slaughter (these also have very graphic violence).

The Claire Malloy series by Joan Hess (more light hearted and fun to read)

Do you know of any good murder mystery books?

March 272011

Hi, I’m looking for some good murder mystery books, they have to be cozy/armchair mysteries, nothing too violently detailed. Any good Edwardian or Victorian set ones. Not M.C Beaton as I have read all of hers. Anything like the books by M.C Beaton or Simon Brett or Anne Perry. Any help appreciated, Thanks in advance :D

Try some of Rhys Bowen’s books like Her Royal Spyness. (She has about three series: one is modern, set in Wales about a policeman named Evan; another is set in the US in the 1800s, about an Irish immigrant named Molly; the third is set in the early 1930s England. The last named is the Spyness series. Lady Georgiana is a plucky and resourceful young woman who solves mysteries while trying to avoid being married off to some brainless but wealthy young suitors. She’s had to (horrors!) find work because the family fortune isn’t what it used to be–hence the pressure to marry money. As you might guess, they’re light and funny, more like Beaton’s Hamish (so far I haven’t gotten into the Agatha Raisin books)

Have you tried any by Charles Todd? They’re set around the first World War and there are two series. One is the Inspector Rutledge: Rutledge is a shell-shocked veteran trying to return to his job after the War. PTSD wasn’t really well known or understood, so those around him don’t know about his struggles. The other series is Bess Crawford, who serves as a nurse during the war, which is still going on.

Let me ask an obvious question: have you read the classics? I’d highly recommend the Lord Peter series by Dorothy L. Sayers if you haven’t read those; they’re post WWI. Also Margery Allingham’s books and the still wonderful Georgette Heyer. I’m assuming you’ve read or rejected Agatha Christie.

(P.S. You do know that Beaton writes Edwardian and Regency romances under the name Marion Chesney, right?)

What are good romance/mystery books for a teenager?

March 252011

Nothing with vampires or supernatural beings… I read twilight and loved it but I don’t really want to read something else just like it. So know any normal mystery/romance books????

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Intertwined (#1) and Unraveled (#2) by Gena Showalter

Shiver (#1) and Linger (#2) by Maggie Stiefvater

Clockwork Angel (#1) (Prequel series to Mortal Instruments) by Cassandra Clare

City of Bones (#1), City of Ashes (#2) and City of Glass (#3) (The Mortal Instruments series) by Cassandra Clare

Hush Hush (#1) and Crescendo (#2) by Becca Fitzpatrick

The Angel Experiment (#1), School’s Out Forever (#2), Saving The World and Other Extreme Sports (#3), The Final Warning (#4), MAX (#5), FANG (#6), ANGEL (#7) [Maximum Ride series by James Patterson]

GONE (#1), HUNGER (#2), LIES (#3), PLAGUE (#4) [GONE series] by Michael Grant

Unwind by Neal Shusterman

Can you order books online and get them shipped to the store?

March 212011

I was planning on ordering some books online at Barnes&Noble. My order was for three books, two of the books are pre-ordered. I was wondering if i could have the books delivered to the store instead of shipped to my house. Would all the books arrive at the same time or each one depending on the time they are released or in stock? Would i still have to pay shipping cost? And how do I know if the separate packaging fee is for the total order or each individual book?

Yes to all ……………..

What are some good mystery books about treasure hunting?

March 192011

They don’t necessarily have to be about treasure. I just don’t want to read murder/crime mysteries. I’ve had my fill for the moment. Anything about solving riddles, discovering ancient secrets, finding treasure, finding lost places, anything like that. The more classic the better. Realistic or science fiction, doesn’t matter. A Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne is kind of close. I really liked the National Treasure movies, books like that would be cool.

Suggestions anyone?

Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson. The classic treasure hunt novel.
