What are some good mystery books for girls?

May 302011

I need some good mystery books for girls! I’m 13 years old and I’ve already read most Nancy Drew books. I’m not a fan of the Hardy Boys so don’t suggest that please! (Don’t suggest twilight either…ew.) I’m a pretty fast reader so alot of books would be helpful. Thanks!(:

Try the Sammy Keyes series. I think the author’s last name is Van Draanan. It’s still getting sequels and is set in our time.

If you like Nancy Drew, try Trixie Belden, they were written around the same time.

There is also The Anthony Monday series which is a bit more fantasy like and the author has several other series’.

looking for Christian books on sex in marriage?

May 282011

I’ve been married for 5 years. when we first got married sex was good and frequent. now, its once every month or two and it sucks. im looking for anything that will help but it must have Christian influence books for me,her or both of us… ANYTHING!

have you heard of "Fireproof" or "the love challenge?" Those are both excellent tools/movies/books to get you through these times. One of the most amazing things about "the love challenge" is that is asks for each couple to find something nice to say or do for the other EVERY single day. It forces you not to focus on the negative but to put the light back on the good. It also reminds you that God must be in your marriage if you want it to survive and sustain. Check with Nest Entertainment, they have a bunch of wonderful books.

What are some historical fiction books suitable for a 5th grade class?

May 262011

I have a historical fiction book report and time line due for my L/A class and i can`t think of any books to do it on.

I loved "Moccasin Trail" by Eloise Jarvis McGraw and "Rifles for Watie" by Harold Keith when I was around that age.

"Moccasin Trail" – A pioneer boy, brought up by Crow Indians, is reunited with his family and attempts to orient himself in the white man’s culture.

"Rifles for Watie" – A Civil War-era novel about a boy who enlisted in the Union Army and ends up a spy for them in the Confederate Army.

What are some good mystery or science fiction books that aren’t more than 150 pages?

May 202011

Im a girl in middle school & need a science fiction or mystery book for a project. I don’t want it to be more than about 150 pages cause i don’t have that long to read it. If it’s less than 150 pages than that would be good. Thanks :)

I just loved "The White Mountains" by John Christopher. It is a little over 150 pages but not much at 164 pages. If you want a riveting read try "The Hunger Games". It’s longer but it will keep you up at night just to finish.

What are some good teen romance/mystery books?

May 172011

I’m looking for a good romance and mystery book. Romance and suspense or thriller is fine as well. Please no Vampire books I’m getting sick of them! (I’ve read about 7 including the Twilight Saga)
Thanks ! :)

That I can think of:

Sarah Dessen books are always good for romance.
The beautiful dead series is kind of a mystery with some romance and all my friends like them :)
The Luxe series, again a romance with a bit of a mystery.

Might not be your sort of thing but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Malorie Blackmans books; Noughts and Crosses is the first one, very romantic but also sad

Hope this helps! <3

Why non fiction books are important in a classroom?

May 142011

I have to write an essay on why it is good to read non fiction books in an English classroom.
I have a couple of reasons but i still need a few more. If you could help me out that would be AWESOME.

To use the literary skills of the author to change the way we look at things.
To read about events which really took place from the point of view of the writer, and we can compare it with the opinion of the general public.

April buys eight books for $44. Paperback books cost $4 and handback books cost $8. How many of each type of b?

May 122011

April buys eight books for $44. Paperback books cost $4 and hand back books cost $8. How many of each type of book did she buy

h = the number of hard-back books
p = the number of paper-back books

p + h = 8 books

4p + 8h = $44

-4p – 4h = -32
4p + 8h = 44

4h = 12

h = 3

5 paperback books and 3 hardback books.

What are the books called where the color of the book means something different?

May 92011

Posted in books | 2 Comments »

My friend was telling me that there were a series of books that the color on the cover told you what the book was about. Like red means rape, or silver means cutting, and black means depression. I wanna know what those books are called. Thanks.

are you talking about the books by Ellen Hopkins? They’re written in poem like form. There’s:
Crank (black-drugs), Glass (purple-drugs… it’s the second book following Crank), Impulse (red-suicide), Burned (white-rape), Identical (silver-also rape type i think), Fallout (yellow/gold -third book after Crank and Glass), Tricks (red -haven’t red this one yet) and I think one or two more.

i’m not sure if these are what you’re talking about, but even if they aren’t you should check them out they’re pretty good in my opinion.
