How do authors get their inspiration for new books?

How do authors get their inspiration for new books? Thanks for answering!!!

I don’t know how other authors get inspiration, but in my case, it’s usually generated by curiosity. I’ve had seven books of non-fiction published, and each began when I started to wonder about something. A little research, then a little more, and first thing you know, a story was shaping itself.
It was a little different when I decided to try fiction – that mainly involved creating my character, getting to know her really well, and then imagining how she might react in different situations. And gradually, this wound itself into a storyline.

What are some good books for advanced 13 year old girls?

I like suspensful books, and I hated the beaconstreet girls, and most books by meg cabot. I loved the maximum ride series. I am not allowed to read books about vampires and my parents would prefer that I didn’t read books about ghosts, but they let me. Any suggestions?

Good for your parents–all the vampire books are super overrated. :)

Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
Sarah Dessen novels, especially This Lullaby, Just Listen, and The Truth About Forever
the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte’s got a bit of everything in it–mystery, romance, suspense–in my opinion it’s the greatest book ever. :)
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro–a sci-fi drama, and one of the most beautiful and depressing books you will ever read!
The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi

If you like suspenseful stories, try Edgar Allen Poe. "The Telltale Heart," "The Black Cat," and "The Masque of the Red Death" are among his most famous. :)
I know James Patterson also writes mystery novels as well as the Max Ride books. I haven’t read any of them, but I hear they’re good.

Does anyone know of any good mystery books not made into a movie?

June 242011

I’m looking for a mystery book with no movie connection, and was wondering if anyone knew of any. It should be for someone between 12-18 years old.

Last light- Terri Blackstock
Night light- TB
True light- TB
Dawns light- TB
Hangman’s curse – Frank peretti(is a movie but is nothing like the book)
Veritas Project(series)- Frank Peretti
Things not seen- Andrew Clements

Should i buy new books of ACCA course for 2011?

Posted in new books | 3 Comments »

Hi i am planning to give three exams (F5, F6, F7) of ACCA course in june 2011 but i haven’t baught new book and i am still using old books of 2010. so please give me details about each of subjects changes so i can know that which books i have to buy otherwise i planning to use old books except F6.

Hello,

For F6,it’s recommended to buy new books due certain and additional changes(Like Inheritance tax) in the syllabus and tax rates. The answers in the exam kit also may differ,so it’s better to buy new books:)

For F5 and F7, take a look at the syllabus and compare, then judge by yourself if whether you need to change the book or not.

16 year old girl searching for new books to read?

I’ve running out of books to read (I buy many at a time and read them all) and I was hoping that some people would give me suggestions :D
I am capable of reading higher levels. Does not have to be ‘Young Adult’
I am tired of seeing vampire books so don’t suggest those please?
I did read Twilight. I love Harry Potter. I read the classics, and I prefer books that have a meaning and make you think.
I am, however, open to new things.
Please and Thank You!

i am also 16.. i love jane austen, i onw everything she ever published… a farewell to arms by ernest hemmingway is amazing…stephenie meyers book the host is pretty good and not about vampires, rebecca by daphne du maurier is an amazing story, it will definitely make you think…i am a big reader so its really hard to choose, just do yourself a favor and do not read anything by steinbeck. les miserables is also an amazing story.

What are some good christian books?

June 122011

You see lately i have been reading a Series that’s about these 3 friends and well each girl has their own series and im almost done every single one and i don’t know any other good books that are good for teenage christian girls. is their any good books that I might like?

"Left Behind" is a good one, if you wanna read about what happens when the Antichrist comes. I’ve read the children’s series of it, but not the adult ones yet (I plan to this summer).

Don’t limit yourself to Christian books, either. There are many out there, and please don’t be a prude that thinks just because it has to do with vampires or witches it’s demonizing readers :P Some of them actually have Biblical themes, and therefore can be considered Christian books, like Harry Potter. I also recommend Sherlock Holmes, if you like mystery aspects.

And I just saw it on my nightstand: Another Faust by Daniel and Dina Nayeri. It’s about these kids selling their soul to the devil to get what they want. I’m almost finished with it, and I definitely think that’s a great story to read. A couple of times they mention the Seven Deadly Sins…I don’t really think any of them realizes they’re, like, a billboard for one of the Sins.

OH OH OH. And The Chronicles of Narnia. Written by a Christian for Christians, my dad likes to say. I would recommend His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman (as I think they’re entertaining books), but my dad likes to call that one the "series written by an Atheist" because he kills a character called God. … BUT IT IS GOOD.

Hope I’ve helped, if only a little bit :3

What are some clean science fiction books?

June 102011

I really enjoy reading science fiction, but it’s often difficult to find good science fiction that isn’t too dark and that doesn’t contain sex. What are some good science fiction authors/books that aren’t dark and gloomy and that don’t have sexual content?

If you want optimistic sci-fi with near-zero explicit sexual content, I would advise you to stick to ‘Golden Age’ (1930s-50s) stories from authors such as (from Wikipedia):

Poul Anderson
Isaac Asimov
Alfred Bester
James Blish
Nelson S. Bond
Leigh Brackett
Ray Bradbury
Fredric Brown
Bertram Chandler
John Christopher
Arthur C. Clarke
Hal Clement
L. Sprague de Camp
Lester del Rey
Robert A. Heinlein
C. M. Kornbluth
Henry Kuttner
Fritz Leiber
Walter M. Miller, Jr.
C. L. Moore
Chad Oliver
Frederik Pohl
Ross Rocklynne
Eric Frank Russell
Clifford D. Simak
E.E. "Doc" Smith
Theodore Sturgeon
William Tenn
A. E. van Vogt
Jack Vance
John Wyndham

And even then that’s not a 100% reliable guarantee–you will still find the occasional, implied-but-discreetly-asterisked sexual situation, e.g. man and woman giggling/kissing, and then disappearing into a room and closing the door. Heinlein and Anderson (to name but two) were not particularly coy in this respect.

Although he is somewhat notorious for the chastity of his earlier writings, even Asimov managed to write a short story called ‘Playboy and the Slime God’, and one of his later ‘robot’ detective novels ("The Robots of Dawn") actually hinges on a sexual relationship between a woman and her robot servant (somewhat echoing one of his earlier short stories, "Satisfaction Guaranteed"). So there are a few for you to avoid.
