Will paperback books go out of print in future?

August 312011

I love reading and i cant imagine books going out of print.
I’ ve tried reading ebooks but it doesnt have same enjoyment. Are real books in danger?

It’s my understanding that the whole industry is in danger. This is actually a real serious problem. With all these new e-readers and other stupid technology…It sucks! I’m a literature grad. student and I swear, every other day we are talking about this issue in class. There’s a nostalgia with real books…the feel, the smell, re-reading your favorite novel – you can’t replace that with a freaking e-reader, virtually flipping the pages, god that’s so stupid!
I really hope this never happens. It’s not revolutionary, it’s not more convenient – it’s the death of an important industry that has inspired so many people.

I am 14 and I like to read fantasy books and also murder mystery. I am obviously at a teen age reading level. ?

I like to read. Any suggestions on what to read. I am currently reading a murder mystery book call stormbreaker and the author is Anthony Horowitz if that help. Any suggestions on what I might like? Thanks.

Young Bond by Charlie Higson-based on the series by Ian Fleming and is about James Bond whilst he is at school at Eton in the 1930’s when he’s 13-14 years old. Although he’s not a proper spy yet, he always seems to find himself in the middle of a mystery and you can see why he makes such a good spy.
Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien
Maximum Ride by James Patterson-Adventure/thriller novel about six kids who are 98% human and 2% bird and how they were designed in a lab to save the world.
Seven Ancient Wonders by Matthew Reilly-Adult books but incredible action adventure novels. Really fast-pased with lots of extra cultural information that makes it really interesting.

Murder/crime

well, theyre always told from the point of view of the detective. maybe it would be interesting to see the point of view of the victim, or even the suspect.

What is the best place to sell used college text books?

I prefer walk-in places, but if there is a good online website, that will do too. Bookstore at my college gives very little for used books.

Used college textbooks are generally sold for very less, unless you list your own prices on sites such as half.com, which is run by e-bay (generally a lot of people do look on half.com for used textbooks, so it’s not bad to sell this way, although it would be slightly less convenient than just selling them all at once at your college bookstore or other textbook sites). I would recommend checking out chegg.com because they buy back your books and allow to print a free shipping label so you don’t have to pay for one, but be warned that they won’t buy back your books for much either.

Any development books for people in the process of writing a fiction novel?

August 142011

How to, not other fiction books.

I’ve found some but I’m reluctant to spend money on something without a second opinion.

It really depends on what sort of help you need…

I recommend the ‘Write Great Fiction’ series, which has a different books for several aspects of writing (plot, dialogue, character – you choose). This might be good if you have a particular weakness. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=write+great+fiction&x=0&y=0

‘Self Editing for Fiction Writers’ by Renni Browne and Dave King is a great one for just teaching you to write stronger prose in general. http://www.amazon.com/Self-Editing-Fiction-Writers-Second-Yourself/dp/0060545690/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313184532&sr=8-1

Or if you want a great analysis of what makes a story work, try ‘Story’ by Robert McKee. Note that this book is actually directed at screenwriters and uses movies as examples, but actually it’s a really great help for any kind of story, and has some amazing insight into meaning, theme, structure and character. http://www.amazon.com/Story-Substance-Structure-Principles-Screenwriting/dp/0413715604/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1313184623&sr=1-3

What are the best fiction books about con-artists?

August 102011

I am just starting to get into fiction books and I want to read some of the best ones out there that are about con-artists. Does anyone know of a good book / series?

the Montmorency Series are something you might be interested in. It takes place in victorian London and is about a man who lives the life of a gentleman by day and robs people via the sewers by night. Its an easy read for someone who is just getting into reading. by Eleanor Updale
