What is the name of a collection of 1950’s childrens books about an old woman who gives rememdies to kids?

March 82010

It’s sort of an old, black and white-y, 1950’s-ish set of children’s books about an old, plump widow living next to all sorts of kids. She gives them and their parents remedies, potions, and has adventures at her house. I have no idea of the title or author, but i am desperate to know them.

I want to write Childrens books, so how do I get started?

March 62010

I love to write and really want to create books for children and self-help for Adults but do not have funds to help me. What and where can I do and go?

Hello, I am currently writing a book myself (which I hope wil get published).

Now what may help you is to go to the library and borrow a book which will give you help with writing and the business aspects fo writing. I myself borrowed 5 books at my last visit to the library:

*Zen In the Art of Writing

*Romance Writing

*All I know About Writing

*Self Editing

*Re-writing

And they have all thoroughly helped me! :)

Now you’ll be pleased to know that getting published does not cost a penny-in fact the publisher will pay you! (Around 1 000-5 000 dollars advance!) Unless you choose a vanity press, where they’ll make you pay. But perhaps stay away from them and stick to Harper Collins etc. if your having trouble with funds.

Once you have written a polished and markettable story make sure to check with the submission guide lines set by publishers as to what type of books they want and how many words etc. All this info can be found online.

So my advice is:

*Borrow some how to books on writing

*Write a skeleton for your story

*Write the story in full

*Edit your story and re-write sentences your unsure of etc.

*Find a publisher or an agent (you’ll learn more about them in your writing books from the library)

*And hope your book will get published :)

Good luck!

Hope this helps :)

What are some unique childrens books ideas?

March 22010

I have a project in English class that we have to create our own childrens books. We have to come up with our own plot, theme, title, etc. for the book.

Does anyone have or know any unique ideas that I could get inspiration from? Maybe some title suggestions as well?

TITLE: Chompers

Plot: A young child learns about the importance of eating well to prevent major problems in the future with teeth… Through the book, the child meets a tooth, an apple that is healthy for his teeth, a piece of candy that is bad for his teeth, a dentist who is gentle, a dentist who is mean, a tooth brush, and a tube of toothpaste… The characters include the tooth, tooth brush and toothpaste in "human-like" fashion… They talk, move, walk, and are an intricate part of the message being delivered to children…

TITLE: Gazuntite!

Plot: A bunny named Gaz learns the importance of not spreading around germs, especially since the bunny is sick and causing all of his other friends and family to get sick too… Gaz realizes that it’s not only best to cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough, but to also try and cough into your sleeve instead of into the air or into your hand, or paw because if you sneeze on your hand you will spread germs around when touching faucets, door handles, pencils, crayons, etc… The bunny learns that the best thing for a cold are hot soup, veggies, and plenty of rest… Gaz’s friends all visit him and lecture him on why he got sick in the first place – because he went outside in the cold without a coat… The story ends with Gaz feeling much better and playing outside and having learned the importance of saying "bless you" after someone sneezes…

TITLE: Riches to Rags

Plot: A wealthy lion cub has it all… All the toys a kitty could want, all the food in the grasslands, friends, and money… However, the lion cub keeps losing all of his possessions b/c he gambles them away, making bets on things like "what branch will that butterfly land on next?".. .He loses everything and becomes an angry and scary lion when he hits rock bottom… Hiss friends help him realize the error of his ways and help him to regain his pride, pun intended…

Which childrens books meant most to you growing up and why?

February 262010

I’m 34 and about to have my first child – I thought I’d start hunting around on Ebay for some of the books and toys that meant so much to me when I was growing up. Does anyone have any particular favourites I might get some ideas from? I’d have never learnt to spell without Ant & Bee!

I Love You Forever

Great book, first book I read that wasn’t for school, and the first book I read on my own. I have some of it memorized by now… I love you forever, I like you for always, but as long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be! soo sweet, it used to be my favorite book. Now that I’m not 6, when i read it i actually understand some of it other than "the boy flushed the watch down the toilet, and he was very naughty" it makes me want to cry sometimes

What are some literary works (including movies and childrens books) that make bible references and allusions?

February 242010

I would prefer children’s books because i can remember them easier than books! Movies are good too. Help!

Yes, Narnia is good. Also, the TIme series by Madeline L’Engle. This article has a description of these books at the bottom. I love them!!!! Feel free to comment on the article! :D

What are some childrens books that look at the loner or the outsider?

February 222010

Wiritng a term papaer on how children books look at the character of the loner or the outsider, do you know of any that deal with this kind of character?

You’re taking me back a ways, but I recall that Beverly Cleary did some great work on the outsider child. Particularly her Ramona books.

I want to publish childrens books. Can I make a living writing childrens books? How do I become big?

February 202010

I have so many wonderful ideas about childrens books. I really want to write childrens books that will change the world. I am so excited to get my books published, but how do i? How do i know who will make me big?

Publishing them and writing them are two different aspects of the literary field.

If you want top publish them you’ll need to find authors. a printing house, distribution channels, suppliers, an ad agency, etc. A very expensive start-up operation in a field that is cut-throat.

If you’re looking at becoming a writer you’ll need to find an agent, a good editor, possibly an artist (if your books are to be illustrated) and eventually a publisher.

I’ve worked as an editor and writer for nearly 20-years and I’ve never seen the children’s book market so competitive.

Here’s the good news — this is a growing segment of the publishing field. More-and-more authors are getting in front of book houses these days and getting into print. In part because of the Harry Potter craze.

Find a niche to write about that you’re strong in; an agent that believes in you; and go for it!

Good luck. –Andy
