Comments on: What are some Christian books you recommend?

In my early years as a believer I began reading anything I could get my hands on, and it spiraled out from there.
Anything by C.C. Lewis…the best being The Chronicles of Narnia (lots of spiritual food there), Mere Christianity, The Great Divorce, Surprised by Joy, and his science fiction trilogy.
Then I started reading C.S.Lewis’ friends’ books (all members of the Inklings…their writing group) Dorothy Sayers, Charles Williams ( my favorite The Place of the Lion), J.R.R.Tolkien.
That led to the people who influenced them: George MacDonald and G.K. Chesterton.
Anything by Flannery O’Connor. (that will give you lots to ponder) Also Annie Lamont: (Travelling Mercies )
I’m reading Blue Like Jazz at present.

I would suggest anything Francine Rivers has written. My favorite is "Redeeming Love," a retelling of the story of Hosea and his prostitute wife. Another good one is "The Last Sin-Eater," which you might recognize as having been made into a movie.

The Mark of the Lion trilogy is amazing – set in ancient Rome in the days of the gladiators, etc. You won’t be able to put them down until you finish. Amazing.

The other book of hers that I’ve read is "And the Shofar Blew," which is set in modern times.

All are fictional, but amazing. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love them.

If you haven’t read any CS Lewis, like "Mere Christianity," "Screwtape Letters," or "The Great Divorce," I’d highly recommend them. They’re not hard to read and are really interesting.

I also think it’s interesting to check out some "anti-Christian" books to test my beliefs against what others have to say. Next on my list is Dawkins’ "The God Delusion." Should be a good romp, I’m sure.

I love Jan Karon's Mitford Series. It starts with At Home in Mitford. They are funny and fun and heartwarming without being too sappy, and not very preachy though there is a definite Christian theme. I also love anything written by Brock and/or Bodie Thoene.

I really liked Blue Like Jazz… if you find that you like it, you might want to check out "Searching for God Knows What" by the same author.

You’ll like Blue Like Jazz. It’s great! Best spiritual book I’ve read. Try anything by C.S. Lewis such as The Screwtape Letters and The Great Divorce. He has a lot of books like that that are inspirational and such. If you want a list of books to look through then check out this link:
