Chapter 5. Cheater

Doesn’t sound like a good way to start off, but we dive right into Bella working at Newton’s. It’s a slow day, and Mike tells Bella she can take off for the afternoon… everything is in her face and noticeable, as if cotton had been taken out of her ear, as Bella describes. Interestingly, the backpacking customers are telling stories about the giant black bears – hmm, is he really talking about bears or something else? Even though she says she doesn’t mind staying, Mike insists that he’s closing the store so she heads out into the rain, which makes her realize she doesn’t want to return to Charlie’s place, especially since she had a very bad version of her normal nightmares….

Bella doesn’t hear from Jacob, so she calls and Billy says he’s still in bed, and she doesn’t believe that Billy took him to the doctor. She continues to call without answer, so she stops by the Blacks home – no one’s there. Bella then goes to the hospital and he had not been in. Basically, Charlie explains the “situation” – saying the phone lines have been down, Billy went to a different doctor, Jacob has mono and he can have NO visitors. She does some online research about the sickness – and the symptoms just don’t seem right. Bella’s suspicious about Billy’s story, and she wonders why …

Chapter 8 “Adrenaline”

It’s time to ride. Jacob reviews some of the major parts of driving a motorcycle, as Bella nervously re-considers her lessons. He insists that she do not let go of the clutch… as he attempts to get things in order. At some point, Jacob says it’s okay for her to slowly release the clutch – and she hears the voice – shocking her to let go of the clutch all at once! The bike falls on her as the voice says ‘I told you so.’ She’s alright, a bit dazed and quite happy that she can hear Edward. Bella realizes the hallucinations are NOT about deja vu, but instead related to danger and adrenaline. This is when Bella’s need for speed starts …
