Prep Materials for the LSAT

December 162009

People have asked, so here’s what I used!
Books I mention are:
Powerscore Logic Games Bible
Powerscore Logical Reasoning Bible
Powerscore Logic Games Ultimate SetUps Guide
Powerscore 2004 LSATs Deconstructed
Nova Master the LSAT
SuperPrep (LSAC)
All released official practice tests (LSAC)

My LSAT Score: 174 (99.3 percentile)
My first diagnostic LSAT: 160 (81.3 percentile)

Other tips I forgot to mention:
1. *Do* spend way too much time going over you wrong answers on practice tests until you completely understand why you got it wrong and why the correct answer is correct.

2. Every wrong answer is a learning opportunity–don’t have a panic attack if your score drops on a practice test–it just gives you more material to work on your weaknesses.

2. Repeating logic games you’ve done before helps you identify patterns in the game and improves speed.

3. A positive attitude is essential. Stay calm, know that you’re ready for it, and be your own coach. You have to practice this as you’re studying in order for it to happen on test day. I’d say that positivity and the calm confidence that goes with it is what makes a person reach an all time high on test day instead of seeing their score drop 5-7 points.

Hi, thanks so much for posting this into. I am thinking about taking the LSAT in the next year and a bet scared about it, as i have gotten a Barron’s Pass Key, and it scared me. I am in the 2nd chap and have no idea what i am doing. Looking for a book to help me understand the methodolgy of the test (best ways to read the questions and how to go about answering them).

I’m 120 pages into PowerScore Logic Games. It is truly great. It does not leave me thinking, “How did they get that?” in the answer keys like another book I used.

    Yeah, I’ve heard …
Yeah, I’ve heard good things about PowerScore. My friend used the logic games and logical reasoning books almost exclusively and took tons of actual tests. He got a 174, missed 5 questions. 4 of 5 he got wrong were in reading comprehension. He got one logic games question wrong, so Powerscore helped him get all but one of those two sections’ questions right.

“hard work and knowing how to approach the test” You hit the nail right on the head. I wish I knew that earlier; it took me four months just to change my approach from “oh my god!” to “bring it on”. I agree with your purchases: the powerscore books along with actual editions of the test (available uptil june 2008), are the ONLY way to go. unlike the GRE or other tests, there is no imitating the questions on the lsat no matter who you are, kaplan or princeton R.,

I’m planning on taking the an LSAT prep course at Arizona State University. I’m ashamed to say the first time I took the LSAT I performed abysmally. Thus the next time I take it I’m going to have very different study strategies.

    Thanks for posting this Katie.
